Irene Maldini

Dr. Irene Maldini, Associate Professor at Lusófona University in Lisbon, conducts critical research on clothing production and consumption volumes, their environmental impact, and the solutions that have been proposed to reduce them. She worked as a product designer and an academic in Uruguay and Brazil during her early career. In the last 10 years, while based in the Netherlands, her research focus moved to clothing driven by the challenges of overproduction and overconsumption in this sector. The visibility of these challenges, she believes, opens opportunities for the clothing sector to drive much needed fundamental transformations in other fields. Having recently relocated to Portugal, Dr. Irene Maldini’s role at Lusófona University’s Fashion Department includes fostering international research collaboration.
